Thank you, Gabriele.
I appreciate your comment. :~)
Although I still eat fish frequently, the benefits of adding purified fish oil to our daily diet is compelling.

Hi Mitch, it's great to see you here. :~)

Many in the medical community felt the same way a number of years ago. It has been said that if we eat right, we shouldn't need any supplements to our diet. Well, it's extremely difficult today to eat well and avoid processed foods. It's a fact that fruits and vegetables are just not as nutritious as they used to be. And we are also exposed to many more toxins every day that compromise our immune system.

You probably know that the RDA's were developed during World War II in order to prevent ACUTE vitamin deficiencies. By the way- you know anyone with scurvy lately? On the other hand, chronic deficiencies have been linked with many chronic degenerative diseases. Many of these are silent diseases for many years until diagnosis. Do you know anyone with heart disease, diabetes, or cancer?

Many supplements on the market are not tested thoroughly for potency and efficacy. If you are not experiencing a beneficial difference with your supplements, I suggest you do a bit of research. A great place to start is http://comparativeguide.com

Questions to ask include:
Does the company use pharmaceutical standards for their manufacturing processes?
Are the products certified through third party testing?
Is the product taken in single or multiple doses? We don't eat once a day, do we?
Does the company guarantee the product potency in writing?

It does make a difference when our body has the raw materials it needs to function properly. Besides, there is truth to that old saying: "We are what we eat."

Take care!

Glutathione plays a central role in the glutathione redox cycle, a complex biochemical system involved in neutralizing free radicals and providing protection from free hydroperoxides and lipid peroxides. In addition, glutathione recycles other well-known antioxidants (especially vitamin E), keeping them in their active state. As humans age, glutathione levels drop, and the ability to detoxify free radicals decreases.

Although Glutathione is a compound involved in one of the body's most important antioxidant systems, glutathione itself is not absorbed intact very efficiently. One of the best ways to increase glutathione levels is to provide the building blocks and precursors needed to manufacture it within the body. N-acteyl L-cysteine (NAC) is an effective precursor to glutathione, and it is more efficiently absorbed than glutathione itself. Substantial amounts of other important nutrients are associated with glutathione production, including selenium and vitamin E.

I take a few supplements, but I can't say I've ever felt that any of them have done me much good. Except for one, that being the cod liver oil pill I take every day. I say that one because as a little kid I drank it every day in juice and almost never got sick, and as an adult I've taken it for years and I haven't been sick for longer than half a day in 13 years.
