No matter what age you are, it pays to have healthy bones. Our bones are living and growing throughout our lives and are constantly being renewed with new bone tissue. When we exercise and eat right, bones are built up as more tissue is produced than is lost. Bone loss occurs when more bone tissue is lost than is replaced. Hormones and stress also play a part in the production of bone tissue, but today I want to focus on the nutrients that play a huge part in healthy bones.

Brain Food: Is There Hope for Preventing Alzheimers?
When Grandma said that I should eat fish because fish is brain food, she was closer to the truth than I ever realized. Scientists and doctors have also been telling us for years that diet and exercise play a huge part in our overall health. It just makes sense that a healthier lifestyle including an abundance of fruits and vegetables with plenty of exercise results in a longer and more active life on into retirement.
But testing this theory has proven difficult. In the past, studies on healthy lifestyle choices as related to diseases including Alzheimer’s have always been large epidemiological studies based on surveys and, ironically, memory of previous diet and exercise patterns.
Supplements are Harmful …Really?
Mainstream media has been sensationalizing the latest study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine on the use of dietary supplements by older women. (1) Most of the headlines about this 19-year long study involving about 39,000 women with an average age of 62 state things like, “Women taking multivitamins or other supplements have an increased risk of death.” Basically, they are all saying that vitamins will kill you.
